Last week’s session was an inspiring one as it has made us a brainstorming through which each one of us exposed their ideas about community-based learning projects and how we can affect the community we live in; how we can make a change in other people’s lives.
The “aha” moment that our discussion resulted in was when the following sentence was raised” What can the community do for me and not only what can I do for the community?” Of course the environment where we live affects us greatly both negatively and positively. So we need to be aware of that impact on us. I think that every community has a lot of defects that affect people’s way of thinking and their everyday life. But we shouldn’t be passive; we as educators have to be anxious about the community and the future generations. We have to be positive and to shed lights on the problems we have and arouse our students’ interest and inquiry approach and provide a healthy environment for discussion and research.
I have made up my mind to follow community-based learning project in teaching. I will start with the problem in my classes. I will train my students on doing research, collecting data, organizing their information, suggesting solutions, studying why those solution will work and why others won’t. I will clarify that problems are everywhere and they will disturb our life if we don’t take the necessary measures.
I am so happy that you are motivated to try this approach. Continue learning. All the best.
